Activities You Can Do with Your Elderly Mother on Mother’s Day

By Kevin McClarren, 9:00 am on

As parents age, they are sometimes unable to do the activities they enjoyed for most of their lives. Fortunately, Mother’s Day provides the perfect opportunity to shower your mother with love and have a good time together no matter what her limitations. There are plenty of fun activities you can do on this holiday, and Warren 24-hour care experts have a few suggestions.

Share Memories

Even if your mother is not able to go to the bowling alley or ride horses with you like she might have done in the past, you can still reminisce with her about experiences like these. Pull out the photo albums and recall the special times you have shared over the years. Ask your mother open-ended questions about your childhood, or have your her tell you her favorite parts of the mothering experience.

Visit Nature

If your mother is able to walk or can use a wheelchair, going outdoors can be a refreshing and enjoyable activity. Many nature trails and parks have flat, paved walkways. If there are no trails or parks nearby, birdwatching in the backyard can also be a great activity if your mother is a nature lover. Purchase a bird feeder for your mother’s yard and keep it filled for her for a great Mother’s Day gift that can provide stimulation for her all year long.

Cook Her a Special Meal

Consider rewarding your mother’s years of faithful service in the kitchen by cooking up one of her favorite dishes. In many families, food carries a unique history, and your mother may finally be willing to pass down her most secret recipes so you can carry on the tradition. If your mother is able to help, cook the meal together.

Have a Spa Night

If you are a daughter providing senior care in Warren for your mother, have a girls’ night. Buy some special bath soaps and face masks and have some fun in the comfort of home. Light some candles, get out the comfortable bathrobes, and pamper her with her favorite scents. This gives you both the chance to relax and have some bonding time.
